As part of our ongoing digital support we identified that client’s website — built on Squarespace — was still running on version 7.0, despite the release of version 7.1 in December 2023. This upgrade offered new features, improved performance, and design flexibility that aligned well with the client’s evolving needs.

The Challenge

The client was unaware of the version update and the benefits of migrating. After deciding to proceed with the upgrade, we encountered a significant roadblock:

  • Developer Mode had been previously enabled on the site, which prevented the migration from going forward.

The client needed someone with the technical know-how to resolve the issue and manage the migration process smoothly.

Our Approach

We took full ownership of the upgrade process, ensuring minimal disruption and clear communication throughout.

1. Issue Resolution with Squarespace Support

  • Investigated the technical limitation and identified Developer Mode as the blocker
  • Acted on the client’s behalf by contacting Squarespace Support, raising a support ticket, and coordinating with their team to have Developer Mode disabled

2. Migration Planning & Execution

  • Created a detailed Migration Preparation Plan, based on Squarespace’s official guidance
  • Coordinated with the client to agree on timelines and responsibilities
  • Duplicated the site as a backup once Developer Mode was disabled
  • Successfully migrated the site to version 7.1

3. Post-Migration Styling & Support

  • Fixed minor styling bugs caused by theme differences post-migration
  • Implemented custom CSS to retain brand consistency and visual polish
  • Provided hands-on support to ensure everything functioned seamlessly after the upgrade

The Result

The client is now fully upgraded to Squarespace 7.1, benefiting from:

  • A modern site structure with improved performance and flexibility
  • Continued visual consistency across all pages, thanks to post-migration fixes
  • A reliable technical partner to handle platform changes and support needs
